| Bio: | Dr Caitlin Parker MD, FACS, FCCMPersonality: Caitlin is a dedicated (or, probably, addicted) board-certified critical care surgeon who spends half her life in the GWU hospital emergency department, earns more than she has time to spend it in, and is terminally unused to having a life. At work, she's more than at home with the stress and the pressure of being an emergency medicine attending. At home, she drives herself half-mad trying to find things to do, and she's phenomenally ill-equipped to deal with the everyday emergencies of the modern world. Mostly, she's happy to let people call her whatever works for them, and will answer to most things - Caitlin, Kate, Dr Parker, Doctor, pages, codes, oh-my-god-she's-not-breathing... almost anything, really. History: Caitlin was born in Boston. Her mother is a chef; her father, a science teacher. Her parents' oft-repeated advice amounted, to her, to a few very simple things: things about how long hours really kind of suck, responsibility is overrated, and satisfaction will make you ignore both of those things. It was a problem her younger brother solved by going into accountancy, working by daylight, and having friends and family. Caitlin solved it by following her own dream of going into medicine. Throughout her schooling, Caitlin had the kind of fantastic grades that make it look like the system works, and she easily secured a place for her pre-medical degree; a path which led her to the GWU medical school. Caitlin moved for classes, and, deciding that she kind of liked DC, applied for, and was accepted to, the GWU hospital's general surgical residency program. Following this, Caitlin entered the trauma fellowship program, and finished two years later as a board-certified critical care surgeon. Now: This time, actually coming soon. No, really. Honest. Strengths: Caitlin thinks fast, decides faster, and wastes no time turning that into action - provided she's dealing with things she understands. Medically, she knows when she's out of her depth - brains are right out, and she'll only touch a heart if there's no other option. Mundanely... well, that's a different story. Divinely, Caitlin's skills benefit from her being a goddess of medicine - though just how much is rather uncertain. Weaknesses: Caitlin is very much used to people doing what she says. She's likely to be abrupt or inappropriate with people - a side-effect of working in an environment where she needs intensely personal information from complete strangers. She's addicted to her work (with the bonus of extra in-house night call), and has virtually no clue what to do when she's not waiting for the not-quite-dead to brighten up her... um, night. EirFrom Wikipedia: Eir ("help" or "mercy" in Old Norse) is, in Norse mythology, a goddess of the Æsir who is called 'best of physicians' in the Edda. Eir is also counted among the Valkyries, connecting her to the ability to 'choose the slain' and awaken the dead. She was skilled at all kinds of healing, particularly herbcraft, and was even capable of resurrection. She is one of the goddesses on the mountain Lyfia ("to heal through magic"). She was also good friends with Frigg and is listed as one of her twelve handmaidens. Eir is also the name of one of the nine maidens who serve the giantess Menglöd in the poem Svipdagsmál. It's unclear if Eir was an actual Norse deity or if Snorri just made her up, but she's here now.
